Ashes to Ashes

A back blip from last week today, because circumstances have conspired against me finding anything fresh to blip.
This is a solid oak coffin dating from the 11th - 14th century (opinion is divided as to the exact date) which is set high in the wall of the eastern ruins of the Church of St John the Baptist in Chester - the oldest church in that city. Not that the coffin has always been high in the wall - it was ordered to be set there in the 19th century, to help shore up the crumbling masonry. It was likely that the “Dust to Dust” inscription was added at that time. It’s definitely one of the quirkier sights to see in Chester.
Unfortunately, a good part of today has been spent trying to resolve an issue with mum. It seems she has become a victim of rogue builders who have demanded money for work they haven’t done, or shoddy work for which she has been vastly overcharged.
I have involved the police and her bank and am waiting to hear further. Today’s cheque has fortunately been stopped, but I suspect the amount taken from her could be quite considerable.
Despite her protestations to the contrary, I think the time has come to set up a care plan for mum that is more robust than the present casual arrangements involving family and friends. It will be interesting to hear what the police say, once they have spoken to her.
