His heart will go on

This is Captain Edward John Smith who went down with his ship when the Titanic sank in 1912, and his imposing statue stands at the entrance to Beacon Park in the town.

Some survivors reported seeing him lock himself inside the wheelhouse, and die clinging to the ship's wheel when the wheelhouse windows broke under the pressure.....whether that was brave or foolhardy is a matter of opinion I guess but I love this remembrance of him.
