Diary of an Edinburgher

A charity shop find!

Today we took Archie and Robert to lunch. One of them was not too keen…

This was to thank Robert for looking after Archie while we were in France a few weeks ago. We went to Salt, a cafe we’ve been meaning to go to since it opened (quite a while ago now). We were all pleased with our choices, though next time, I’ll have the French Toast that Robert had. It was properly soaked in egg.

Archie was not too happy, though, and fairly yapped and growled and tried to nip Robert’s leg repeatedly when we eventually emerged. The soundtrack was good (even better when we requested it to be turned down) - as I recognised most of it. Or, at least, I knew the songs but couldn’t place the band. (Noah and the Whale, Scouting for Girls, Beautiful South…) Robert had a ‘What’s that song?’ app, part of Apple Music, apparently. But I’ve just found out that Google can do that too - just tap the microphone.

We stopped for a coffee along the road, but sat outside in deference to Archie’s allergic reaction to cafes. On the way home we spotted this dish (£18) in the charity shop. We had to have it, as we have had this fabulous big Royal Dalton vase for many years, it belonged to my mother, and her sister before that.

I watched tennis most of the afternoon - a great game between Kyrgios and Paul Jubb, a young Brit. Also watched the Nadal game. I do like to see young guns giving the established players a wee scare. Serena on later this evening. Also fitted in another episode of BB while the others went out for a walk. This episode was particularly murderous… which I hate, but the story is so good, you have to hang in past the gory bits.

Also sent for last night - delivered today - a very important item to take with us on our road trip next week. (Extra)
