Coffee sack screen
When I was in the middle of my first growing season, I was overwhelmed by the amount of bindweed everywhere around me. There were times when I felt literally cornered by the stuff.
Both of my neighbours have a 'laissez-faire' approach to perennial weeds and the neighbours from the Howard Street houses at the back of my plot have completely abandoned the back of their garden, so bindweed was a massive issue.
One of the things that used to really irritate me was seeing bindweed climb up the metal fence between my plot and the neighbouring gardens. I quickly covered the fence with fabric but never had enough to do the full width of the plot, plus my old shed was in the way.
5 years on, I'm more or less on top of bindweed on my plot and I've even managed to get rid of it in several no-dig beds, even though it still appears to be thriving on my neighbours' plots...
I wanted to grow climbers at the back of my plot - it's quite shady so honeysuckle (and possibly a trained blackberry) would grow well there - but before I needed to completely screen and cover the metal fence.
That's when the local café-roastery, which is always giving coffee sacks away, came in handy.
It took a while but I'm very pleased with the result!
