The kid kitchen
I received my weekly email from the Blue Hill Library. The director wrote in his weekly letter about this amazing little kitchen that is a new addition in the Larchwood Children's room. Here is some of what was written:
"I am really excited to share something that has been on the proverbial back burner since before 2014, the “Kid Kitchen” in the Larchwood Children’s Room. The work is stunningly beautiful and very, very local. I was thrilled that we were able to talk retired carpenter and major library fan, Howard Chittenden, into taking on this project.
The beautiful miniature cabinets are made of wood he milled himself. The walnut is from a tree Blue Hill resident and library patron Carol Beal planted with her late husband in approximately 1976. She told me it shed countless walnuts, which were used in dyes and inks in local art instruction and by weavers. Last year it needed to come down and Howard acquired the wood. He also milled the other woods that he used: ash, spalted maple, and white pine.
The play stove burners, sinks and knobs are from among the last items that were made at Blue Hill’s legendary Rackliffe Pottery, from East Blue Hill clay."
I had to go to town today and stopped at the library. The whole thing is just stunning, so beautifully made and the details are amazing. Apparently the kids think it's pretty grand too!
Some of the details are in the extras.
