First and last Pacific sunset
Last year in San Diego we saw so many wonderful sunsets from the 10th floor of our apartment on Pacific Beach, San Diego. This year, staying in La Jolla there was not the same opportunity so today, our last full day was the final chance to see the sun set.
It wasn't the most spectacular of sunsets, but better than a cloudy sky and it is amazing what a good zoom lens, the sunset setting and a steady platform can do. (I think)
Earlier in the day we returned to Mission Trails Regional Park to explore further the trails and the semi desert environment. Another superbly sunny day, warm but with a cooling breeze in places. One trail was easy and took us around to the Grinding Stones where the local Indian women used to meet to grind acorns to make flour. The depressions in the rock can still be seen.
The San Diego River valley, watered by an infant San Diego River is a riot of vegetation compared with the drier, desert like conditions on the mountain slopes above.
The second trail was to the Climbing Rocks, a one mile trail taking you high above the main San Diego River valley to the base of popular climbing cliffs. A steep climb up and down and a rugged trail beneath the crags made for an interesting walk.
Tuesday evening is always Taco Tuesday in San Diego, so for our last night we went to Ocean Beach to a popular bar and grill for a selection of tacos at a bargain price all washed down by local beer. Between us we had Mahi, Wahoo, Yellowfin and Shrimp tacos with rice and beans.
After a quick visit to Starbucks for coffee we got to the pier on Ocean Beach just in time to see the sun dip below the horizon.
