Crossing the river
We had a day of jaunting in the countryside yesterday. First we went to visit the remains of St Olave's priory, an Augustinian priory built around 1216, parts of which are still in remarkably good condition given the period of time and the attitude of Henry VIII to all religious buildings.
Next we went over to Burgh Castle on the river Waveney to see the 3rd century Roman fort. What a fete of engineering this was, built as part of the Romans coastal defense with quite a large part of the walls still in tact. The site is a peaceful one surrounded by meadows on 3 sides and the river on the 4th.
Later we went around to the pretty riverside town of Reedham for a pub lunch and then, rather than drive all the way back, caught the little chain ferry across saving ourselves a 30 mile trip (main photo)
