Emotional Day

(Wednesday, backblip)

This was a day honouring the two grandsons by attending their school events.

First up was Ben’s Leavers Assembly in Craigie Church, next door to their school, which was handy as it was pelting down rain!  The whole class was sitting on the stage.  Some playing their musical instruments, and Ben and Mia sitting together at the front as they were the (very excellent) comperes.  There was prizegivings, (the upper school were in the pews too), sports awards,  song they had made up between them all to the tune of a beach boys hit, and each came up to microphone and said their best memory of their years at CPS as the teacher handed  Out their yearbooks.

We then went back to the school gym for a cuppa and biscuits and some photos.  I felt a bit sad that these years here are ending as I’ve been to a lot of events here as they were mostly on a Thursday when I was off.  It was good that Ben also had his other gran there along with aunty Janice and best of all mum and dad.  They are all so excited about going on to secondary school and I just want the best for them all.

Next up was Cameron’s prizegiving at the concert hall.  It was also great.  They had the gold medal curling champ Millie there as she was a pupil at Perth Academy.  Then a former ladies professional  footballer gave the most inspirational talk , directed at the kids how she battled through her tough home life finding a refuge at school and a few particular teachers who supported her.  I hope some of her story is remembered by the kids.

Music provided by the school band and a couple of solo singers who most definitely are destined for stardom their voices soared in the concert hall, and we were in the back row of the balcony and it was spine tingling.

Then, the prize-giving.  Cameron was receiving one Major Award - The Katherine Young award for General Excellence, and the Mrs TD Miller Award for Mathematics, also two merits in Chemistry and Computer Science.  Oh how my heart swelled with pride.  He did here us whooping and hooraying from the balcony LOL!

His mum and I both have mental blocks with mathematics so him being the best in 5th year on this subject blows my mind really!  Ha

Well S1 awaits Ben at the High and S6 for Cameron at the Academy.  How have they got to this age I ask myself??   I started this journal in August 2010 on Cameron’s first day in P1 and here we are 12 years later with all this happening.  All I wish for them is to be happy in whatever they do and to follow their dreams and don’t let anything hold you back - believe in yourself.

What a great day to be a grandparent :)
