Does it get any better?
An early morning trip to one of my favorite lakes for a paddle, carrying my D850 and 300 lens in a dry-bag and monopod in the kayak. I know this is a terrific spot for odes and hoped that my timing was right for some bug porn. Well, hello! When I saw not one, but 4 pairs of Turquoise Bluets thus engaged, I carefully maneuvered my kayak around in the lilies until I had the best angle (knowing it would not be perfect). It would have been wonderful if they'd all been on the same focal plane but, alas, no. Still, I'm quite pleased with the shot for the sense of "activity" it conveys.
I had the lake to myself other than one other boat with some guys fishing. Lots of birds along the shoreline and even one lone ring-necked duck (rare here this time of year), but it was really all about the dragons and damsels for me today. I also got a good shot of a mating pair of Eastern Pondhawks which I will put in Extra (female is green, male is blue).
While having dinner last night, Hubs spotted an enormous black bear strolling across our front yard - bit of a shock. And today I made the mistake of leaving a suet feeder out while I was gone - it has disappeared. My bad. After we saw the big bear last night, we saw one of our neighbors walking their husky so Hubs went out to warn them and lent then our airhorn. I wouldn't be concerned except that this big male is remarkably unconcerned by humans. And I am also quite concerned that Jax would attempt to go after a bear.
Heading into a long weekend to celebrate our nation's Independence Day. Given the state of affairs here, I'm not sure it's really something to celebrate.
Haven't make the dark decision yet today but I'm sure it will be delicious.
