Relic
A meeting with the website designer planned for this morning was cancelled, which freed up a fine day to work in the field. More soil was needed to fill the raised beds and there was a useful source nearby. We have plans to knock a hole through the wall beside the garage to provide an easier and shorter route to the vegetable plot and compost bin(s) but at present the ground is 2' higher on the field side. So, some of this soil was transported to the beds, courtesy of the re-wheeled barrow. It would have been relatively easy but for the fact that the soil was quite soggy, populated with a fair amount of sticky willow and riddled with stones, brick and general rubbish. Here's hoping it has some nutrients suitable for potatoes and strawberries!
After yesterday's century, most of the day passed without a thought for a blip. But we thought it would be a shame just to give up and noticed this old door latch, unearthed from digging the vegetable plot. We liked the burnt warmth and detail of its flaking rust in the early evening sunlight.
