Lin-con
We are away this weekend for my birthday part 2.
I’m aiming to do something every month for the whole of my 50th year; until we reach Mr A’s 50th next May.
I saw a deal on Travelzoo back in November, to see the London Concertante perform Vivaldi’s Four seasons; my favourite piece of classical music, plus a few others classics at the end.
It’s a nationwide tour, but I chose tickets to see the performance (by candlelight) at Lincoln Cathedral, thinking we could have a nice weekend break in the process.
We set off to Lincoln this morning, with a minor detour to Sleaford to catch up with a couple we met on holiday 4 years ago.
She made us a fab lunch and we chatted like old friends, which is always nice. Neither of them had changed; Dave still had a crazy sense of humour!
The concert was a HUGE disappointment; we were glad of the interval after 45 minutes and took this as our opportunity to leave.
Whilst the musicians were hugely talented and the music was good, they did not play the Four Seasons. Instead we got random violin concertos. The ‘candlelight’ was as in the photo (I’ve actually edited it to dim it down) with the overhead spotlights still shining brightly.
I always knew it wouldn’t be Mr A’s cup of tea, he said ‘thank f*@k you’re only 50 once so that was another reason for leaving early; I didn’t want to put him through 2 hours of something that wasn’t what I had planned.
I will be contacting Travelzoo to express my disappointment.
Leaving early though meant we could have a wander round Lincoln and we found a fab Thai restaurant for our evening meal.
Tomorrow we head to London for the next part of my celebrations. I hope that goes to plan! :-)
