Choked
Another session on the Zodiac today, and we finally got around to tackling something we'd noticed right at the start. The automatic choke isn't in good enough condition to go back in; as you can see, one of its feed pipes is in pretty bad shape.
I managed to source a replacement ages ago, but while it looks similar I suspect it's for a later version of the carburettor: the configuration of the bimetallic spring is different, the pipes are a different bore and - worst of all - the mounting is different so it can't be fitted. After we took both chokes completely apart, though, we were able to assemble a hybrid one that has the new pipes and spring and, crucially, fits the mounting! We'll still need to improvise adapters for the pipes, but that should be easy.
It should work, but we won't be able to test it until we can run the engine. We might - big MIGHT! - reach that point within the next couple of sessions... fingers crossed!
