I Want to Break Free
I took the Epiphone Bass back to R&T Music this morning. Try as I might, I just can’t get a decent tone out of it on my amp and there was the added drawback that it was very “nose heavy” when strapped on. Nothing for it but to cut my losses and move on. No argument from Vaughan (owner), and I was offered store credit immediately. This was of course somewhat less than I paid for the guitar a fortnight ago, so I’ll just have to treat the difference as a “hire fee”!
Now, Vaughan is not a man to let you walk out of the shop empty handed - especially if there is a danger he might owe you money, instead of the other way round. No sooner had I mentioned how I envied our guitarists being able to roam out into the audience because their wireless systems meant there was no lead tethering them to an amp, than this box of tricks was produced - and demo’d!
I was suitably impressed and inquired as to the cost. Wouldn’t you just know it - exactly the same as the amount of store credit I’d been given not ten minutes earlier. I really should have seen that one coming!
Still, looking forward to being able to join the boys if they “go walkabout” at our next gig. Just need to remember to make sure the units are fully charged beforehand to avoid an embarrassing silence. Maybe I’ll take a backup lead, just in case…
