Gentleman Jack's Home
Shibden Hall, Halifax was the home of Anne Lister, the focus of the BBC drama series ‘Gentleman Jack’. It has now become quite a tourist attraction with people wishing to explore Anne’s life and the lives of those who lived in the Hall and Estate.
The garden at the front of the house used to be laid out in the “Paisley Shawl” design inspired by the Victorian bedding designer Joshua Major. I was sorry to see it is no longer there.
My extra is The Lister Lion. It's carved from a local stone - millstone grit - and made for Anne Lister in the 1830's during a period of alterations and improvements to the Hall. It incorporates the coat of arms of the Lister family who resided at Shibden for over 300 years.
