HOPI BLACK SUNFLOWER

On Saturday, I posted this tall, heirloom
sunflower, just as it was ready to bloom.
Today it finally bloomed & was worth the wait.

My son grew the seedling & it seems to be very happy in this sunny spot. This is the first time I have grown SUNFLOWERS & it has been a revelation.

I am unable to find any information about this plant, named after a Southwestern US
Native American tribe. I wonder if it grows
in that parched land….
