The four of us needed a bit of space after a massive couple of days so, after going to vote this morning, we got out of Melbourne, and went to Alowyn Gardens in Olinda.
In what I can only describe as a tribute to Stevie, E crapped in a hedge maze. Absolutely comic scenes as J and I could see what was going on over the waist high hedge, but weren’t close enough to stop it, nor to stop the poor couple who were nearer to him from getting any closer…
Spent the trip home answering all of A’s election-related questions, of which there were many. She sat up with us watching the first bits of the election night coverage, but was ready for bed before any results had come through.
They came through thick and fast after that though. The rest of the evening was the most joyful and hopeful few hours we’ve had in a long time. We have a new government. Some great independents got up too, including the person Stevie voted for, signing his name on his postal ballot being the last thing he ever wrote. I’m so proud and sad and happy (and yes, bawling) all at once.
