Great day in Kilkenny
Our first full day began at Cakeface, a brilliant pastry-shop/café near home, then a leisurely walk along Parliament Street and High Street and on to the city centre. We almost did a tour of Kilkenny Castle but finally decided to leave that until tomorrow. We took the little tourist train around the city, driven by a real character who negotiated some ridiculously narrow lanes along the way.
Some shopping and a couple of pit stops and we ended the day in glorious sunshine on the terrace at the River Court Hotel.
Food? Not great choices today apart from Cakeface, finishing in a so-called tapas place which was quite disappointing. But none of that mattered. Kilkenny was at is best in the sunshine and we had a really wonderful day.
One of the extras shows an unusual notice on a shop window which we thought rather strange — “Female Owned”, it thought important to say.
