A riot of colour

We were up very early this morning and left our holiday house, a very comfortable converted chapel at 7.45am. The car GPS said we would arrive home at 2pm but we knew that wasn’t going to happen. It was foggy first thing and we decided to return via Dolgellau rather than going across via Birmingham. After several stops for road improvements at temporary traffic lights we were making good time until we got onto the M5 south of Bristol. Obviously we had to make a couple of comfort stops and we eventually reached home at 3.15pm. There was a 15 mile queue on the M5 heading north so we were pleased we weren’t travelling in that direction. After unloading the car I was just in time to see the tennis semi final. I am sure Cameron Norrie will have gained some useful experience against Djokovic. The final will be interesting on Sunday.
I nipped into town on foot to pick up a parcel and on the way back I took a few shots of the wildflowers in a nearby garden. The owner came out and to,d me the best time to take a photo was before 11.30am when the poppies were fully out. I had never chatted to the elderly gentleman before. He told me he was 90 and lost his wife 7 years ago. They were married for 63 years after going out together for three years. They had previously lived in a nearby village and he used to be a painter and decorator but changed to working on a tractor at the local golf club when he could no longer do the decorating. He worked at the golf club for 16 years. He used to grow vegetables on his plot but the work was getting too much for him so he had asked a gardener friend from the golf club to weed the plot and sew the wildflowers. He said how lonely he was living alone. Hopefully, we will get the chance to talk again, I have never seen him out in the garden before. The car was showing an outside temperature of 27 degrees on the motorway.
