Clan Young Crest
Prudence Excels Strength

My mother was a Young (and a.Sinclair). When she left Scotland in 1954, Young was not a recognized clan.

The April 1987 issue of the "Highlander" showed "Young of Auldbar" As a dormant clan, dating to 1672 in Scotland. Edward A Young III contacted the Lord Lyon and was given permission to convene Clan Young, and to display the arms and crest of Peter Young of Auldbar, the last Clan chief of the Youngs. Clan Young convened January 9, 1988 at Orlando, Florida, and where it was formally organized a year later with the election of it's first officers.
On January 1, 1992 the Scottish Tartans Society at Comrie, Perthshire, Scotland granted a Certificate of Accreditation for the Young tartan.

Today it is estimated that the surname Young is the 15th most common surname in all of Scotland. In Edinburgh, it is the 13th most common surname, and it is estimated that one out of every 185 residents bears this surname. Edinburgh has the highest concentrations of Youngs of any city in the world and it is closely followed by Glasgow.
