A great harvest
This has been an extraordinarily good year for raspberries; plenty of them and of good size. A few years ago I contemplated replacing the canes as they produced small fruit, which were hard to pick, as the fruit refused to part from the receptacle. The cure seems to have been in the mulch of well rotted stable manure applied each winter. Last years canes had to be shortened to 2 metres in height, but even at that the support wires were insufficient to hold them upright, resulting in a tangled mess. Improved support is planned for the late summer!
The extra shows a couple of hours' worth of picking. The extra freezer should cut out the purchase of imported raspberries during the winter.
