A trip to Washington

Washington in West Sussex, that is, not D.C. It was a visit to a garden in the National Gardens Scheme at The Old Vicarage in Washington. It's a private garden that is open to the public every Thursday and on special occasions such as today. So, in addition to just enjoying the very impressive garden, we were treated to a concert by four alumni of the Royal College of Music and a sumptuous afternoon tea. The weather was hot and sunny but tea was taken under a marquee and there was a cooling breeze. It was a birthday present to my wife from one of our daughters and a bit of a contrast to last year's equivalent which was a visit to a rewilding garden in Kent. This garden certainly wasn't wild! Charities benefiting from today's event included the Alzheimer's Society and Macmillan. The extras show the house and other views of the garden but I chose these vivid orange colours for the main picture.
