Charlecote Park

Another incredibly hot, sunny day -- we have been very lucky with the weather so far in our English adventure.

Today we left beautiful Buckland Manor, and headed northward.  We stopped for a quick visit to Charlecote Park, home of the Lucy family.  According to the National Trust, "The 'new' Charlecote, completed by the first Sir Thomas Lucy in 1558 was one of the first great Elizabethan houses."  It certainly is an impressive pile!  We would have loved to have seen the interior, but unfortunately today was not a day when it was open to the public.

A wander around the perimeter and a quick admiration of the gardens then, and back in the car for another stop at Kedleston Hall in Derbyshire -- gigantic home of the Curzon family with very, very grand Adam interiors.  When we returned to our car, the temperature read 100F!

We are now comfortably ensconced on the Chatsworth estate at the charming Devonshire Arms at Pilsley.  We plan to spend all day exploring Chatsworth tomorrow!

(For some reason, I am having tremendous difficulty adding Extra photos, otherwise I'd add some of Kedleston.)
