Glimpses of Me

The Lone Swan

Lone swan ruffles placid surface of the sparkling lake.
Amidst glistening tall trees, golden ruby, she glides.

Magnificent, her white plumage shames all other birds.
She moves determinedly, yet in graceful passages.

Perfect curvature, her neck, so ballerina-like.
She is elegant, for knows she beauty, oh so well.

Waits her mate for life, her love, and too her shell-bound babes.
For her eggs are protected and future, gentle nature, sure.

Mr M's day off today.. Decided to stop by at Manvers Lake on our way home from Doncaster ... yet again
It wasn't a great day for landscape shots, was quite cloudy and it started spitting (brief scattered rainfall)..
Was clicking away at ducks and mallards but later on spotted this lone swan..
She seemed like she wasn't that much enthusiastic about anything.. Here she was splashing a bit, but without much gusto.. She seemed to be pining for her better half coz we didn't spot any other swan on the whole lake..
I hope he comes home to her soon because she seemed a bit despondent, melancholic even..

Addendum:
Mute Swans - Cygnus olor - are one of the oldest species of birds.. Its the least vocal of swans but by no means mute; the most familiar sound associated with Mute Swan is the vibrant throbbing of the wings in flight; although they do utter short grunts and hisses as well as loud snorts during breeding season.
The bill is orange red with a black nail. Known to be one of the heaviest flying birds, we find them on most lakes ,rivers and ponds.
They are monogamous, and are extremely territorial.
