Liberal
The former Leeds and County Liberal Club (Chorley & Connon, 1890) on Quebec Street stands very distinctly in its terracotta cladding.
Dipping into my contemporary Leeds Pevsner I learn that terracotta was favoured in the nineteenth century for its smoke and soot resistant properties. According to a blue plaque (extra) the material used for this building was Welsh terracotta, and Pevsner tells me this came from J.C. Edwards of Ruabon.
