On The Road Again
Another day and a Standing Stone Adventure. The temperature was high when we departed, however, the proposed route took us into Perthshire and also to higher altitudes.
The route passed through the planned village of Forteviot. We came across the standing stone which had been placed in a prominent axis line.
This standing stone was carved in 2018. It is a remarkable piece of Sculpture by the Sculptor David McGovern.
Kenneth MacAlpin, king of the Picts founded the dynasty that became Scotland. He died in 858 AD in the Palace of Forteviot which is believed to lie underneath the existing village.
We spent some time exploring Forteviot before journeying on to Fowlis Wester. There are many Pictish standing stones around the village of Fowlis Wester.
The church has two excellent examples displayed inside the building.
The extra shows the interior of the church. The stones are displayed within the arch opening on the left hand side. They are very difficult to photograph. I took many for my own purposes.
For Blipfoto I took a photo of the excellent information board prepared by Historic Scotland.
We then headed north out of the village and up onto the ridge to examine more stones. There is a road and I drove along the road, however, it would have been simpler to walk the mile or so along the track.
The car is fine, but it required a great deal of careful steering to avoid the various potholes and ridges. Turning the car to make the return journey was also a bit of a faff.
And the temparture was a balmy 22C.
However Coffee and Cake at Gloagburn Farm Shop was a treat for us both.
Number of photos taken with three different cameras came to a total of 100.
