Munich Day 2

Another full on day in tourist mode. 18k steps!

We ticked another DK Eyewitness highlight off - Englischer Garten. One of the largest inner-city parks in Europe. We watched the surfers on the Eisbach rapids, main blip, and walked up to the monopteros temple in the first extra. We also found the huge beer garden next to the Chinesischer Turm (Chinese Tower). On our way to the tower we nearly got run over by a very fast cyclist as we were playing Poohsticks on a bridge. There are a lot of bicycles in Munich, and you have to be very careful crossing the cycle paths.

We also managed to see where daughter#2 now works, in LMU (Ludwig Maximilian University. The second extra shows a memorial in the university to the members of the White Rose non-violent resistance group in Nazi Germany which was led by 5 students and a professor.  There was an interesting exhibition which displayed some of the leaflets they produced. Three of the students in the group were arrested at the university in February 1943 and executed just 3 days later.

In the morning I had explained at the front desk in the hotel that our room was not being serviced and requested that it be done during the day while we were out. Of course when we got back in the evening nothing had been done. This time I phoned the front desk and they sent a team of three people to totally clean the room, changing the sheets and towels, which we didn't need doing. All we wanted were the bins emptying and some replacement cups, but again it was impossible to explain this to them.
