Another Angel!

Newcastle Saturday

Friday night we had a fantastic meal in the busy Slug and Lettuce on Quayside and I had a couple of delicious under the sea cocktails with it. After the meal Brian took us on a mystery route march around the city in search of our favourite pub from last year, The Crows Nest. We never found it and ended up instead in a loud, raucous place with everyone singing loudly to the kind of songs everyone knows all the words to. It was fun!

We found our way back to the hotel fortunately. I'm glad to report that the beds are comfy and although you can hear traffic on the road outside it's just like the wind blowing and not disturbing at all. We slept well. The shower is also great - much better than the one at home, though that would not be hard!

Breakfast was nothing special, but adequate. The only complaint and actual problem as far as I'm concerned is the coffee. It's from a push button machine with a variety of options and it was really bad. I couldn't drink it. I went back and made tea. They have Twinings, and I found a lemon and ginger tea bag. It is so delicious, I plan to buy a box of them!

Then we got ready and went out for a mooch round town. I bought a T shirt from M&S as I realised I'd not brought enough shirts along! We found the Crow's nest too, and had lunch there - I had a lovely healthy salad!

Time to go to the ground then! First match, Toulouse Olympique v Wakefield. Trinity dominated first half but Toulouse came back and won 38-26! Wakefield were hampered by having a couple of players sin binned. No sooner had they got the first one back than the next was sent packing!

Our match was next and we were playing Saints! It was a tough encounter as you might expect. We led at half time but went on to lose 18-20. We had a player sent off. It didn't look deliberate but it is what it is. We did well all things considered to only lose by two. Our fate was sealed with the red card.

The day was rounded off by Leeds and Castleford. Castleford also led at half time but went on to lose 34-20.

After the game we had a quick snack then a couple of G&Ts in the Crows, where we actually got talking to a couple of Saints fans - thoroughly decent guys!

I took this main shot of the moon above the angel statue which is a war memorial for soldiers from Northumbria regiments who died in the 1899 - 1902 conflict in South Africa as we left the pub. There is a rugby extra too!
