Kayaking at Cowan Lake

This morning, Roger Jen and I went kayaking at Cowan Lake. We took our own kayaks, and then Roger rented one. We paddled across the lake to see the American Lotus beds, but as I suspected, it was too early for the flowers, that’s more the end of the month and August. However, it’s still a nice place to paddle, and we saw quite a bit of bird life amongst the Lotus leaves, including a belted Kingfisher much to my delight. (Lower right in extra collage). I had never seen one in person until kayaking at Alum Creek last week, and that wasn’t in very good light. This one fortunately was in better light, and I was able to get a fairly good picture.
