Eleven Alfies! (At Castle Combe)
Last night we were 4 Alfies (Toyota Alphards) at the Lacock campsite. We had a relaxing and leisurely morning and early afternoon, and then late this afternoon we moved on to the Castle Combe racetrack where our event will take place tomorrow. On the way three of us stopped at the car wash to make sure our Alphards were as clean as possible!
This event is the ‘JDM’ car show - Japanese Domestic Market. Meaning that all the participating cars will have been imported as used vehicles (grey imports) - vehicles never sold within the U.K. and Europe. Most of the clubs are made up of young guys with racing cars and many will be racing around the track. It’s always a noisy day! Then there are the Toyota Alphard owners (and the Nissan Elgrand club too) - a slightly different demographic!! A little more middle-aged!
The Alphard club will be a larger group tomorrow, but for tonight there were 11 of us camping at the racetrack. We are the only ones who are allowed to stay overnight on site, because most of us have converted our vehicles to campers. No other camping is allowed. Facilities are limited but it’s fun to have the whole place just to ourselves! It was a beautiful evening. Last year’s event was in October so it was good to have a much longer evening of daylight. We cooked and socialised and then most of us went to bed promptly as the rest of our group, as well as all the OTHER clubs and those on general admission will be arriving early in the morning. The other Alphards not camping with us will convoy in at just after 7 tomorrow morning! This same area will be heaving with people and interesting Japanese cars by about 8am!
