Underneath all that there's a rather small Twig!
I've started a Lichen Flora (list of all the lichen in an area) of our garden. Since it isn't a large garden, I expect only a few examples. Some of them, especially on the concrete walls, may be really hard to identify. This one, on our Rowan tree, is Xanthora parietina, quite common, but great on close up. Lichen are combinations of fungi with either algae or cyanobacteria, which work together. The little cup things on this one are the 'fruiting bodies' and in them are the spores for reproduction. But I'm no expert, only a beginner, yet really fascinated by curious shapes and weird colours...
