Lost in Orleans
An early evening match for Ottawacker Jr. out in Orleans at the Toronto FC Academy. It might be only 30 km away from the city centre, but it feels like a different world. Down at the end of Trim Road, things are very different.
I, of course, got lost, having used my infallibly fallible sense of direction once off the highway. I had to give Ottawacker Jr. the phone and rely on his directions. He managed perfectly. I repeated the trick on the way home, turning left instead of right at the exit and travelling out past Navan. The phone and my navigator once again got us on track, until we hit a familiar part of the road (near Lavergne’s Meat Market) and I said I’d take it from there.
“Dad, you should turn here,” he said.
“Nonsense,” I said. “I know where we are.”
Two minutes later, I turned around and headed where he had told me. The road was shut as crews were still clearing the derecho/tornado from the previous month. That’ll teach me. And him, no doubt.
The game itself saw another victory for OISC, this time 4-2.
