Purple Patch
We noticed at the weekend that some of the fields near us were turning purple. The first time I saw this, a few years ago, I thought I was looking at lavender - or just possibly flax. It was actually a green manure crop, phacelia (I may have spelled thhaat wrong).
This year there is a massive swathe of it on the hillside near Nisbet - at least three fields. And it is in flower just as the barley is ripening ...
We spotted it at the weekend and set out to find it this afternoon - it took a while, navigating the little roads, but we eventually found a way to get close - by walking a section of the Border Abbeys Way. That was no hardship.
