A national kilt shortage

“Now let me be very clear …” “it’s time to level with you …”: there’s an official national shortage of kilts! Why? Well new ones take a long time to make but that is not the main reason. It is because kilts are popular wedding attire. For families that have their own that is not a problem. However many, on both sides of the border are queuing up to hire them for their big days. Covid has created a three year backlog and the demand for kilts is exceeding supply.

A similar demand/supply issue is now impacting the car hire market, especially across mainland Europe. During the lockdowns cars were sold off in an attempted to help the cash flow. Now the holiday drivers are back there are insufficient cars to meet the demand.

As I write this journal the PM of Italy has just offered his resignation and the President of Sri Lanka has fled to Singapore via The Maldives.

Who’d want jobs like that? As you can see from my first sentence there’s no shortage of wannabes for our current top UK vacancy!

Reading with Granny, however, is still a relaxing post school activity.
