Anzac

How well I remember that terrible day
How the blood stained the sand and the water
And how in that hell that they called Suvla Bay
We were butchered like lambs at the slaughter

~ And the band played Walzing Matilda

This haunting ballad written by Scots-born songwriter Eric Bogle I'm sure is well known to antipodean blippers. I was recently introduced by a friend at work to this version by The Pogues. You'll never hear a more vivid and touching account of the horrors of war in a song.

It's Anzac Day today. Today's blip is dedicated to the men and women of Australia and New Zealand who lost their lives in the Gallipoli Campaign and beyond and to those who have proudly served and continue to serve their countries.
