A morning walk in the sunshine. Bean sat down and asked for a treat, for no apparent reason. She didn't get one until she'd done something to deserve it... running back to me the instant I called her off a stinking rotten possum carcass. Good girl.

Walking shoe acquisition in underway. Thank you for all the recommendations. My trip to town yesterday resulted in complete failure to find anything suitable, so I came home to scour the internet...

One brand has no shoes at all in NZ in my size. 

Another brand has no waterproof shoes available in NZ in my size. 

Another can only advise me of the fit in person, which would necessitate a trip to Dunedin (a 1 hour 45 minute drive). 

Finally I had a helpful email exchange with the seller of another brand who asked me to measure my feet in every direction, send the results to them and they were able to advise me on the appropriate shoe and size. If they are not comfortable when they arrive I can return them free of charge.

It is warmer and dry, so I plan to spend the afternoon in the garden, making a start to de- and re-compost the new season's brassica bed.
