Building Sn3 and N Worlds

A "new" diesel for the DSNGRR

On our walk today, we got a visit from the "New" DSNGRR diesel.  This was  bought from the White Pass and Yukon RR in  Skagway, Alaska. It was built in 1969 for the railroad, by the Alco-Montreal Locomotive works.  It was part of the DL535 class and put out 1200 horse power, road number 107.  It worked the rails up there and even had a sojourn to Columbia for work there for a few years.

To get to Durango Colorado, first it road a barge from Skagway Akaska to Bellingham Washington. Then over land for 1300 miles on a massive truck to  its new home.

The DSNGRR needed to add more diesel power to the tourist railroad especially in the dry seasons here in Durango.  Steam locos have a bad habit of starting fires which from fast, and we have been in an extreme arid dry time for 20 years.  DSNGRR repainted the loco and got it ready to work.  It seems to easily pull 15 heavy passenger cars right up the hill to Silverton.

The extra is a "new" car built by the DSNGRR - the best ride in my opinion on the railroad.
