Boats on the Beach
Woke up to rain and didn’t get up til after my second cup of coffee. Nice and slow and quiet. Lovely!
A good walk and some cleaning up. Just before 5:00 I was happily sitting in the quiet in my hermit mode doing my iPad drawing, thinking I just might use it for a blip when 2 unexpected people (!) showed up at the door! Oh dear! Two Parker Islanders who left their kayak and canoe on our beach and came up for a chat. We’ve known Charles for many years…a good guy, but have not met his lovely "new" partner. So 2 hours later (and 3 glasses of scotch for her ..she is a scot and a painter) they were off and we had to go down to the beach to admire his wooden, canvas covered canoe that he made from the old Peterborough Canoe Co design (along with the Chestnut Canoe Co that they merged with …,both closed many years ago because of all the metal and fiberglass canoes being made now ) I thought it was a beautiful boat ....and the evening turned so calm and peaceful. Their dog Tess just jumped right in. There is a museum in Peterborough with old examples. Teddy Roosevelt bought a Chestnut Canoe to bring to South America.
