Animal Welfare
Wow, what a hot one. Even walking to the pool at 6:30 am was warm and the temperature had increased appreciably an hour later, when I returned home.
I had a visit to the hospital for blood tests; hoping the results mean I can come off the hormone therapy, at least for a while. It has had a number of irritating side effects over the last few months.
I got back at lunchtime to almost insufferable heat. I try not to use the air con in the car, doing a little bit for the environment, but in these conditions it was a must. L called Meg's owner to offer to go up to the stables and bring her in out of the sun, which she accepted, so we headed up for 3 hours, starting by hosing her down to provide a means of cooling her down. Neither of us were bothered when the water splashed over us, it was bliss compared with the heat.
Meg looks as though she isn't enjoying the hosing down, but she still stood for it patiently and it helped her, particularly as we could keep her in the shade.
