Trotternish Ridge...
One of Skye's most recognisable sights, the Trotternish Ridge. So stunning it really has to be seen to be believed.
One day I will return to Skye where my priority is photography but for now my priority is spending time with S, L and the girls and my blips are drive by shootings from the car window as we head here, there and everywhere!
Anna had a swimming lesson this morning so they all joined us for lunch at the holiday house afterwards. They brought freshly baked, unsliced bread. S gave L a row for not asking the baker to slice it but I prefer it rustic and there's a good bread knife here so all was well :-) He also bought a box of ring doughnuts. Can't remember the last time we had a proper, old fashioned sugar doughnut. The original and best.
Afterwards we headed off on a drive anti-clockwise around the north of the island, stopping in at Uig where I was promised lovely ice cream to be eaten in front of a beautiful view. Well I got the delicious ice cream but my view was a lorry full of portaloos! It was the only parking space available!
Work has begun on the new pier at Uig and it will be closed from September to March so no sailings to Harris during that time. It's a long time to be without the crossing and locals on both Skye and Harris aren't happy.
After our ice cream we stopped in to visit S's mum. Her mum and dad recently moved into their newly built house and it is stunning! The views are amazing. It took 5 years from planning to completion but well worth the wait. And it was lovely to meet S's mum at last. Her dad was working (he's a farmer) so didn't get to meet him. Hopefully next time.
Afterwards we headed to Portree stopping to pick up fish suppers before heading to S & L's house where we enjoyed them sitting in the garden in the sunshine. A very pleasant 21 degrees here today with a slight breeze in exposed areas (so I didn't expose my areas! Boom! Boom! :-)
After making plans for tomorrow D and I headed back to our holiday house, which is situated in Staffin Bay at the foot of the Quiraing, part of the Trotternish peninsula. We decided to take a quick drive to the top as it may be our only chance.
By this point it was still warm but clouds had gathered and the sun had disappeared over the hill so the light was flat and a bit dull so not great for photography, but from a being there and experiencing it perspective, it was take your breath away amazing.
Back to the cottage for a relaxing evening. That's the polite way of saying we both dozed off!
Hoping to visit Dunvegan tomorrow, stopping at a play park with the girls but heavy rain is forecast so will have to play it by ear.
PS The extra is Anna and Faith with David just after they arrived this morning. He never gets a minute's peace! They compete to tell him the most outlandish stories. He's just as bad! He had them convinced there was no loo in the cottage and the little shed outside with the large bucket was the loo! Anna's face was a picture when he took her outside to show her! :-))
