Tombstone

Not far from where we're staying is Tombstone, a mining town that had its heyday in the 1870s and 1880s when silver was discovered. It's mainly famous now as the location of the famous gunfight at the OK Corral involving Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday and the Clanton Brothers.

Maybe it was the notoriety that this brought that caused the town to lose popularity - for whatever reason it has been undeveloped in the last 100 years, except for tourist attractions. It's a shame the carriage rides, gunfight reenactments, photo booths etc dominate the town. We got sucked into seeing not one but two mediocre and overpriced gunfight performances (and that's being polite) but would have done better to go round the original Cage Bird Theatre and the old courthouse. In the foyer of the theatre the original paintings and mirrors are still there.
