Egg hunt
Easter is always fun with Mum and Dad when their grandchildren are there. Dad loves nothing more that creating an Easter egg hunt around the garden. And he’s very good and replacing retrieved eggs so that the hunt can carry on for some time while the number of eggs does not increase dramatically. As Oliver has got older he is a bit wise to some of these tricks but who wouldn’t play along for some extra chocolate on Easter Sunday?
Just before lunch we took the short car ride to Viriconium (or Wroxeter Roman City as it’s now known). This place was once the fourth largest city in Roman Britain and there are some remains which, when studied alongside the map explaining the place, are really interesting. The centre piece is the remains of the bathhouse and you can see the heating infrastructure and rooms that might have been set aside as drinking taverns. There is also a reconstructed town house. I do love wandering the ruins but, with our English Heritage memberships, we were also able to spend time in the small museum.
After heading back for some lunch, we left Mum at home and went out with the children to Attingham Park. For this, it is the National Trust membership that comes in useful. These memberships are really helpful when going to Shrewsbury and looking for some easy days out. Today we did the Easter trail and played with a frisbee in the park. It’s amazing how easy it is for Amber to have me running around in all directions. I was quite exhausted.
