Early autumn?

Our parched lawn has an autumnal look about it at the moment. It’s dotted all over with dried oak leaves and acorns which have dropped from the ancient oak tree above it. As I knelt down on the grass to take this photo, a pair of acorns cups actually fell on my head! Walking across what used to be a soft, beautifully green lawn, my feet now make crunching sounds. The poor plants in the flower beds are drooping badly too, despite my attempts to water the newest (and therefore most vulnerable) ones. It certainly feels as though autumn is almost on us – and we're still only in July!
