Must remember to bring the book back
Northwich Library was donated by Sir John Brunner (ICI fame). The current building was built in 1909 and was originally called the "Brunner Library". This building replaces an earlier building which was built in 1885, but collapsed in 1907 due to Brine ground subsidence.
The fancy rampas and steps are a new addition, this area used to be a type of layby on Witton street pre pedestrinisation. You could almost expect to see this in the coutry side somewhere as a mock tudar house but as with most buildings in Northwich they had to be either timber or steel framed so that as subsidance hit the area they scould be jacked up higher or in extreme cases moved, despite plenty of horror photograpghs I cant remember seeing a building having to be jacked up in my time.
