Old birch

I’ve passed this wonderful old tree many times over the years but something about the light today made me stop and look at it more closely. So many different plants and, no doubt insects, inhabit this ecosystem, producing its own bubble of life. There are various mosses, ferns and grasses as well as clumps of wood sorrel, altogether producing a beautiful natural work of art on the framework of the old tree.
