Many steps and sore legs!
Today was a gloriously sunny day with temperatures of 28C. Gavin and I both were up early, he ran 14km up the valley and back again, and I ran around the village, hmm... considerably less than that! I find it takes a while to acclimatise to the high altitude and running here is so tricky as its all up and down.
After breakfast the caretaker and plumber came to look at the problem of the leak in the downstairs apartment from our bathroom. Nothing is apparent from our apartment, so we were totally unaware of the problem. It looks like they are going to have to take wood panelling off the bedroom wall to get through to the other side and if they cannot see the problem they will have to take tiles off the bathroom walls...and we don't have extra tiles so that is a problem. As it is a building problem and not something caused by us the insurance for the building will cover it. The work will be done in our absence so won't interfere with our stay here.
We then set off for a hike - we first had coffees at our favourite cafe and then got the gondola to the top of the mountain (elevation of 2297m above sea level) and then hiked back down to Wolfgang on the other side of the mountain. The scenery was stunning, wild flowers everywhere and so many butterflies. Unfortunately the paths have degraded due to mountain bikes using them so there is quite a bit of loose rock and stones and it was very steep, so it was tough on our legs as you had to be careful not to slip. It also very dry, they haven't had rain for a while. It took us nearly 2 hours to get down, and we went to the Kulm Hotel at Wolfgang and had lunch outside on their terrace. By coincidence our neighbours from our chalet apartment were at the table next to us also having lunch so it was good to chat to them.
After lunch we were going to get the train back to Klosters but decided to walk as 'it's not that far' - it took another 1hour 35 mins to get back! I did about 28,000 steps today and we descended 1092m in total so my legs were feeling rather wobbly when we finally got home. But it was the most beautiful day and we must take advantage of good weather when we have it as it changes quickly here in the mountains.
This is our 17th summer in the Swiss Alps and we never tire of it. This year is also the 800th anniversary of the village, it was founded in 1222 which is quite incredible. There are many celebrations taking place in the village this summer for that reason.
I could not decide which image to blip, so I have some extra images here if you are interested.
