The Good Old Hockey Game
Why this photo? Because this is where I was happiest today. I was happy in lots of places (I don't recall being unhappy today) but nothing beats being on a bike. Today saw me riding uphill for a long time with a fierce headwind, lots of rain and even a bit of hail and I was still happiest on my bike.
I did have a funny conversation this morning. I met a Scot who's really into hockey (that's ice hockey for those non-Canadians out there). This guy is a Winnipeg Jets fan - a fine team with more than its fair share of ups and downs in recent years. The funny part came when he questioned the wonderfulness of my home town team. The poor man. He never stood a chance...
He said that he was going to Manitoba this summer (something I've never heard anyone say in my 14 years here) which put me in mind of the Del Barber song Home to Manitoba. I almost put a link up to it but then I decided that you deserved to hear a brilliant song about hockey, written by a little guy from New Brunswick, sung by a great guy from Alberta.
Be warned: the language turns a trifle coarse near the end and Corb Lund is an even bigger Edmonton Oilers fan than me.
Enjoy!
