The Ring

I’ve been on the lookout for a fishhook barrel cactus with flowers blooming on the same day in a full ring. Found one. Timing is everything. Just like prickly pear, saguaro and others, fishhook barrel cactus flower for only one day. By late afternoon they’re wilting and facing their unceremonious death. (Too dramatic?)

Monsoon is finally kicking in. That hailstorm was the catalyst. Notice how brown this cactus is. You’d expect more green.
