A wasted walk
There's a local website called Cumbria Crack (nothing to do with drugs!) where you can keep up to date with the goings on in Cumbria. They had a page on the home screen saying the Red Arrows were to fly over Cumbria today. Passing along Bassenthwaite Lake at 3.30 ish.
I loaded up my 200-500 lens, Gitzo Systematic tripod and gimbal head (along with my regular lenses) and walked to the top of Sale Fell, feeling that the location would give me a great shot of the Red Arrows with Keswick in the background (if they were low enough).
By 4pm nothing had happened, and checking Cumbria Crack, they had suffered an ejector seat problem, (along with the Typhoons) so were grounded for the day, but the flypast was rearranged for tomorrow at 10.44.
Walked all the way back down Sale fell, stopping for a shot of this rather lovely tree. The angle is very difficult to achieve, thank goodness for articulated screens, as the base of the camera was laying on the ground. I had to trim all the grass in front of the camera to avoid extra long grasses from encroaching into the picture.
Ah well - Sale Fell again in the morning!
