I was persuaded...
... to join my partner at Pontefract Races today, despite the damp conditions.
As usual, most of my photos were of racegoers and I was curious about the letters on the backs of the capes that many were wearing.
It was explained to me that, originally the capes were provided using all the individual letters from the wqrd PONTEFRACT. This was quickly changed to just the letters from the popular shortened version PONTY, because of some of the words created when groups deliberately stood together to spell particular words! Another example in my extra.
Please don't offend by experimenting Scrabble-style on blip!
