California Vacation ...

... day 1.

As I mentioned yesterday (soooo long ago now!) our flight today to San Diego is an early one.  We arrived to our hotel last night and got a little sleep before our alarm woke us at 3:00 am!  We were ready for the airport shuttle by 4:00 am and arrived at Newark airport by 4:15 am.  Thankfully the shuttle driver dropped us off right at the United terminal … not all hotel shuttles do that.  We checked our bags and were through airport security in no time at all. 


All was going well until we were actually on the plane getting ready for take-off.  That’s when the pilot came on the speaker to inform us of a slight delay.  Apparently one of the passenger’s was having a medical emergency!  Of course, this passenger was at the back of the plane! Not only did we have to wait whilst medical personnel was able to attend to and transport said passenger off the plane … we then had to wait whilst some medical equipment was resupplied to the plane!  I just hope the passenger is fine. 


We were then on our way to California!  Yay!  Funnily enough when we got to the San Diego airport there was a fire truck at the gate to which we arrived!  Not sure this is a great omen to our vacation … but all ended well! We are here in California to help my mom celebrate her 85th birthday!

Once landed and luggage was gathered we headed to pick up our rental car.  Even though we will be staying with my mom for most of this vacation we are also going to be traveling to Palm Desert for a few days … more on that later … so we wanted to have a car at our disposal.
After getting our rental car we drove up to my mom’s house in San Marcos.  We had a relaxing night spent with her, my sister and BIL … who came down from their home in Ramona to spend the evening with us.   And if I remember right (this all happened months ago as I’m backblipping this in JULY!) R and I were so very tired after our early morning rising and a six hour plane trip that we went bed as soon as my sister and BIL left!  Day 2 tomorrow …
